Description
Arabic calligraphy as an artistic and aesthetic phenomenon instilled deeply in Arab and Islamic
thought at the cultural and ideological level and contains many modernist interpretations,
because of its ability to bring down the factors of time and space in favor of aesthetic thought.
This course will provide an overview of the concept of Arabic calligraphy on one hand and the
concept of philosophy of art and mysticism on the other, as well as the relationship between the
two. Participants will learn about the origin and evolution of Arabic calligraphy throughout time,
its numerous types, and its importance, along with its relationship with the philosophy of art
and mysticism, and the latter’s definition. Foundation and current state of the market as well as
terms and concepts used in the field.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the basic philosophy of Arabic calligraphy and its importance
2. Define and understand the philosophy of Arabic mysticism
3. Correlate the relationship between mysticism and Arabic calligraphy
Prerequisites
None
Teaching Methodology
In this course, participants will actively participate in lecture sessions together with class
discussions, and other teaching methodologies including practice techniques.
Target Audience
Senior persons, Arabic and Philosophy enthusiasts, Arabic calligraphy enthusiasts.
Duration
Two sessions of 1 hour per week. 16 sessions thus a total number of 16 hours.
